Eva Salazar is Kumeyaay from San Jose de la Zorra Indigenous Community, Baja California, Mexico. Eva spent her childhood learning how to make traditional Kumeyaay baskets from her Aunt Celia Silva. This famous Kumeyaay Indian basket weaver taught young Eva the coiled basket-weaving techniques that the Indigenous California peoples have used for thousands of years to create utilitarian baskets for storage, winnowing, cooking, and serving acorn mush (shawii).
