Week 3, Heritage Class
During week three of Heritage Project class the students learned about traditional Kumeyaay/Diegueño games. Epal Uumar, or Hoop and Pole, was a game that strengthened the skills needed for hunting. The goal of the game was to throw a long stick through a moving hoop. Sentaay Kutum increases one’s hand/eye coordination. A stick with a long string attached that has rings of acorn caps. The object of the game is to get as many acorn caps onto the stick as possible. Finally, the students learned how to play the women’s dice game, Pshok.
